The signs of Spring are always accompanied by fresh signs of hope and this year in particular we need those signs of hope, so I encourage you to try and get outside for a bit this week and look for those snowdrops and other spring plants pushing through the soil and to listen out for the birdsong. Symbols and signs are so important to us and this Lent we will be looking at the various Covenants in the Old Testament and the signs and symbols that accompany them, as well as our response to them. We will be looking at Noah, Abraham and Moses initially but also finding links to covenant in the other Sunday services during Lent as we build up to reflecting again on the new covenant which we have in the blood of Jesus shed for all of us on the cross.
This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and so during our usual online weekly prayer meeting we will have an opportunity to prepare ourselves for Lent and take communion together – so come with some bread and wine and if you would like some form of ashes to apply to your forehead.
Following that, on Thursday we begin our Lent courses. In order for us to send out the appropriate Zoom link, don’t forget to let Sarah or myself know which course you would like to attend. The prayer course is now full but there is space in the Bible and Alpha courses and of course there is still the opportunity to join one of our house groups to take part in the Diocesan Lent course.
May you all have a hope-filled week
Mark
