Hosts: Hazel Lamb/David Mellor

Contact: david.mellor@stjohnsbbh.org.uk

Time: tba

Location: Zoom

Hazel says: A forum for airing hot topics respectfully! As an incurable talker, with strong views on many things, I’m offering to keep my views to myself and organise 6 weeks of zoom sessions, facilitated by David Mellor, in which we practice listening to each other’s positions on matters such as politics, sexuality, world religions, Covid precautions and others, as voted for by the group.

There will be a time of quiet at the beginning and end of each hour-long session. The format will include set times for two (different) people each week to explain something important to them, followed by questions from each to the other. Then the rest of the group, followed by the protagonists, will be encouraged to reflect on feelings arising and learning gained, either about the individuals or their topic, including what they hold in common.

The purpose of this group is to practice getting out of our “echo chambers” and to be ready for more encounters and deeper relationships with others outside the church.

Contact: Please speak to Mark or Brian in the first instant if this group could be of interest to you and one of us will be in touch with further details.

Time: Wednesday afternoons from 2.30pm to 4.00pm

Location: Zoom

Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with golden glue – thus what was damaged becomes a feature, beautiful and strong.

Kintsugi Hope is a 12-week course focussing on emotional well-being. It is a space where painful and life changing experiences can be spoken about in a safe and supportive environment. St John’s has already run two groups last year and participants reactions were very positive. (If you wish to speak directly to one of the participants, please let me know so we can arrange this).

Whilst this is a 12-week course, for the Connect groups of Lent we are offering the first six weeks with an option to continue after Lent if the group would like to. ‘We’ are Audrey Lee, Heather Nye and Vivien Herbert. We have been trained and approved by Kintsugi Hope and St John’s, however we are not ‘leaders’ but ‘facilitators’ and offer a safe space and structured approach to discuss such topics as honesty, anxiety, depression, shame, anger, disappointment and loss.

Name: Lent Course

A Lent Course created by Rev Andrew Dotchin published every day on his blog and also sent out every day by email. www.suffolkvicar.org   He is the Vicar of Felixstowe, and is a Franciscan. I was introduced to his course by a friend who is also a member of the Order. The format will be a weekly ‘catch up’ zoom at a time that suits the people who are interested, probably an evening including a chat about whatever has come up while reading the blog, share chit chat, and finish with a prayer. Length one hour. It is as much about encouraging each other during Lent as anything else.
