Health education and training in South India.
Alex and Eleanor lived and worked in Central Asia for 9 years in community health. Last year they moved to South India with their children, Jacob, Anna, Ruth and Libby to work at a medical college in Distance Learning for doctors and community health workers across the country. The children are at boarding school 300 km away, in the hills.
- Eleanor has been assisting with editing work for a book on Setting up Community Health Programmes in low-resource settings, due to be published by OUP. She is also proofreading the distance learning booklets for our core distance learning course.
- Alex has been busy with an international course run in collaboration with Edinburgh University, which has meant a literal flying visit back to the UK. He is also helping develop new teaching materials, doing face-to-face family medicine teaching for doctors, and helping with consultation skills development for medical students.
- We moved to new accommodation on the medical college campus, which means we are more part of the student and staff community. (Previously we were living on the outskirts of the city and socializing was more tricky).
- The new school year started for the children in August. Jacob and Anna are doing AS and A levels, Ruth and Libby enjoying life in Years 9 and 8 respectively. We went to the school’s drama festival where Jacob and Ruth starred as Robespierre and Anne of Green Gables (not in the same play)
