Children & Youth

Welcome to the Youth and Children's work of St. John’s. With the completion of the church hall the groups have been relaunched with the name FUSION.

Fusion -
“the coming together of energetic objects with the result of explosive power.”

Our aim:
To support families in encouraging young people to ACT:

• Accept Jesus
• Continue following Jesus
• Tell others about Jesus

The aim is based on the great commission.

Vision Statement:
We want to provide an opportunity for young people to explore the Christian faith, to be nurtured in their faith and to encourage them to support themselves and each other as they live out their faith, in a fun, friendly and safe environment. We want to see the young people bearing fruit;

• Apply Biblical knowledge to their lives
• Praise
• Prepare them to talk about Jesus to their friends
• Learn about and use their spiritual gifts
• Encourage them in their friendships

The apple acronym is trying to provide a way of linking the fruit theme with the 5 key principles of the church.

Our key verse is looking at growth from a tiny seed to maturity, something we would like to see reflected through our children’s ministry. We want to see our young people grow in their faith, learn the skills necessary to stand on their own and to experience a personal relationship with God.

Mark 4: 31-32
“The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed,
the smallest seed you plant in the garden.
But when planted, this seed grows and becomes
the largest of all garden plants.
It produces large branches,
and the wild birds can make nests in its shade.”

Programme:
From September 2008 the following groups will run:

• Sparklers: Ages 0-3
• Flames: Ages 3-Yr R
• Beacons: Yr 1-Yr 3
• Lasers: Yr 4-6
• Nlt Yr 7-9
• Pyro: Years 10+
• Ignite (Fourth Sundays for years 1-6)

There are no groups on the first Sunday of every month as there is an All-age Service.

On the fourth Sunday there will be Ignite. Ignite is an exciting new group which will bring together all the young people in years 1-6. Ignite is a fast moving event where our young people will have the opportunity to find out more about the Christian faith in a larger group context. There will be activity stations (a range of games from active to chilled), a live band, drama, large group teaching and small group discussions.
