We see this website as an important extension of our community life, so we hope you find the information about who we are and what's going on helpful.
You are also very welcome to come and join our services on Sunday morning.
Our regular service pattern continues to be Communion at 9am (led mainly by Reverend Peter Francis, a Parish Curate who will be attached to St John's during the Interregnum period) and a second service at 10.30am with children's groups. On 1st Sundays, the 10.30 service will be 'Brunch' - our less formal, all-age service preceded by delicious bacon rolls in the hall from 10am. On all other Sundays the 10.30 service includes time in the Hall for all the children/youth groups.
The service pattern is Morning Worship on 2nd and 4th Sundays and Communion on 3rd and 5th Sundays.

Lay Reader
Brian is a Lay Reader at St John's and is about to start training for ordained ministry. He also helps as part of our church finance and mission link teams. He is married to Liz and they have two children, Alex and Philip.
Churchwarden
Liz is one of our two churchwardens, helping to make sure that Sunday services happen smoothly and that our church building is in good working order. In the week Liz works as a special needs teaching assistant at a local primary school.

Curate
Peter is officiating at St John's during
the current interregnum.
Leader
Judith leads Tuesday@Ten (T@T), our women's ministry. Judith is a Modern Languages teacher (currently on family time). She is married to Paul and they have four children, David, Ruth, Peter and Abigail
Director of Worship
Rachel is our Director of Worship and oversees our four Sunday worship groups. She has two daughters, Charlotte and Katy. During the week Rachel works as a professional violinist and is a member of the Sussex Piano Trio.

He also teaches at Executive EDucation, POst-Graduate and Undergraduate levels at Cass Business School and City University, including such topics as Entrepreneurship, Corporate Entrepreneurship and Managing Strategic Change. It means he has lots of experience to call on as he keeps us focussed with our MAP. David is married to Anne and they have two grown-up children.
Treasurer
Derrick is our Church Treasurer and as part of the Church Finance Team oversees our finances. He is married to Jenny and has three children, Laura, Nick and Helen. The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. It's relaxed, non-threatening, friendly and fun. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile - you are free to ask anything! Horsham Parish runs an Alpha course every term, which is hosted by the different churches in rotation. Over the course the team will cover key
topics like:
Who is Jesus and why did he die?
How can I be sure of my faith?
Why should I trust the bible?
Why and how should I pray?
How does God guide us?
Freedom in Christ
This 13 week discipleship course aims to help Christians take hold of the truth of who they are in Christ, resolve personal and spiritual conflicts and become a fruitful follower of Christ, fulfilling their full spiritual potential.
The course involves listening to a DVD talk and time for group discussion of the issues raised.
Marriage Course
The Marriage Course is a series of seven sessions designed to help any married couple strengthen their relationship and considers key topics like effective communication and resolving conflict. Each session involves listening to a talk on a DVD and time for discussing the topic as a couple. There is no group work involved at any stage of the course. The course is relevant to any married people who want to work together at and invest in their relationship, whether you've been married for less than two years or more than thirty. If you have a strong marriage this course will help you make it even better and will reinforce your good habits. If on the other hand your marriage is in difficulty, the course will help provide you with very practical tools to help you work through the issues. Some couples who are separated have used the course as a way of trying to get back together. While the course is based on Christian principles couples are welcome with or without a church background. Many couples who are not churchgoers have enjoyed and benefited from doing the course.
Parenting Course
Parenting is a tough challenge for all mums and dads and every parent needs help and encouragement to keep going. The Family Time Course aims to get parents together to discuss the challenges they face, develop skills which will strengthen their parenting and provide an opportunity to think about the bigger picture of parenting - like the qualities which parents want to nurture in their children.
The course runs for 10 sessions and includes time for listening to a DVD talk and time for group discussion.
All our courses are free, although you may be asked to pay a contribution towards the cost of course manuals

Tuesday 24th January 2012 T@T
Hello everyone!
Thanks to Liz for challenging us this morning.
We were looking at the first Bible study on Rahab from Francine Rivers’ novella (pgs.184/185) “Rahab – a woman with a past to whom God gave a future”. We have a God who loves to speak to us. We talked about the ways in which God speaks to us and the main way is through His living Word. We need to trust Him more and to seek Him more in our daily lives and to be expectant.
I trust that those of you who were on retreat today had a very special time with God. Looking forward to hearing how you got on.
Next week we will be doing the second Bible study on Rahab from the novella. (pgs.185/186)
Please let Coral know when you have booked your tickets to attend the New Wine women’s conference on Sat 10th March in London. Coral has kindly offered to organise the transport nearer the time.
Please pray for the work of the Church in Horsham:
• give thanks for the Carol Service in the Forum
• pray for the links with the police and the Church
• pray for the Y centre
• pray for the homeless and vulnerable in Horsham
• pray for Youth work in the town
• pray for Puppets of Horsham
• pray for wisdom for those involved in planning a new school for Southwater
• pray for the coming season of Lent and Easter
Please continue to pray for Mandy’s son Oli.
Please pray for the staff and students of QE11 School after the unexpected death of Georgia.
Please continue to pray for Minty’s neighbours. Their son, Miles, age 18 has been diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. His parents Damini and Jonti are aware of our prayers as Miles is comfortable at the minute.
Please pray for Kate (and Mike!) as she awaits her gallbladder operation on Sat 28th Jan. Please pray particularly that the keyhole surgery will be successful and that Kate will be free of any infections as she enters and leaves hospital. Keep praying and have faith!
love and prayers,
Judith
Philippians 2 Imitating Christ's Humility
1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

25th September 2011
6th November 2011

We aim to provide a space where men can share and discuss issues relevant to our Christian lives as men, to receive thought provoking teaching and to help us become companions on the challenging adventure that is our journey of faith.
We continue to hold Men’s breakfasts regularly.
They happen in the Hall from 7.30am, usually on a Saturday morning and all men are welcome.
Breakfast/Social Dates 2012
TBA

The men's discipleship group continues to meet regularly for teaching and fellowship.
For further details e-mail them via the main info address.

Grant Laurenson, Simon Parrott, Dan Garner, Paul Bussey, Jon Ogan and Roger Holland

Welcome to the Youth and Children's work of St. John’s.
With the completion of the church hall the groups have been relaunched with the name FUSION.
Fusion - “the coming together of energetic objects with the result of explosive power.”
Our aim: To support families in encouraging young people to ACT:
Accept Jesus
Continue following Jesus
Tell others about Jesus
The aim is based on the great commission.
Vision Statement:
We want to provide an opportunity for young people to explore the Christian faith, to be nurtured in their faith and to encourage them to support themselves and each other as they live out their faith, in a fun, friendly and safe environment. We want to see the young people bearing fruit;
Apply Biblical knowledge to their lives
Praise
Prepare them to talk about Jesus to their friends
Learn about and use their spiritual gifts
Encourage them in their friendships
The apple acronym is trying to provide a way of linking the fruit theme with the 5 key principles of the church. Our key verse is looking at growth from a tiny seed to maturity, something we would like to see reflected through our children’s ministry. We want to see our young people grow in their faith, learn the skills necessary to stand on their own and to experience a personal relationship with God.
Mark 4: 31-32 “The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, the smallest seed you plant in the garden. But when planted, this seed grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants. It produces large branches, and the wild birds can make nests in its shade.”
Programme:
The following groups run at St John’s during the 10.30 service on 2nd, 3rd and 5th Sundays:

Sparklers:
Ages 0-3
Flames:
Ages 3-Yr R
Beacons: Yr 1-Yr 3
Lasers: Yr 4-6
Nlt Yr 7-9
Pyro: Years 10+
Ignite (Fourth Sundays for years 1-6)
There are no groups on the first Sunday of every month as there is an All-age Service, Brunch, which is preceded by bacon rolls in the Hall.
On the fourth Sunday there is Ignite. Ignite is an exciting group which brings together all the young people in
years 1-6. Ignite is a fast moving event where our young people will have the opportunity to find out more about
the Christian faith in a larger group context. There are activity stations (a range of games from active to chilled), a live band, drama, large group teaching and small group discussions.
Click here to download a Word .doc giving more information about what Beacons have been up to recently.

The Team is already planning for this year - put the first weekend of July in your diary (1st-3rd).
Below are some photos from the recent Camp to give you a flavour of our time at the Farm.

It has evolved from a rich performing arts tradition within the worshipping community of St. John’s Church and was established under the direction of the late local drama teacher Hugo Ellis in 2003. Their productions have been many and varied.
Following the sad death of Hugo in Januar y 2011, the rehearsal schedule for his new play, ‘A Pilgrim's Song’ about Vaughan Williams, has been suspended, but it is the desire of both the Space Trustees and Rachel Ellis that the play go into production at a future date. Over the coming months The Space Arts Trust trustees will take time to reflect on the best way forward for the Space Arts work without Hugo. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us following his death. If you wish to know more about The Space Arts Trust and how you can support the work, please follow the link to the Space Arts Trust website below.
The Space Project has three main objectives:
To inspire and culturally enrich the general public, by providing and presenting community arts events, which are affordable and accessible to a wide cross-section of society.
To teach train and encourage aspiring artists of any age or ability by facilitating their creative development, through the provision of workshops, dramatic productions, materials and appropriate courses in the arts, for example.
To work within the Christian Church, and throughout the multi-faith community to foster a creative engagement with the Christian Gospel.

Mission Action Plan
See the Our Vision page for an update of the Mission Action Plan written by Hugo Ellis relating to The Space Project.

St John's runs an online community enabling church members to share prayer needs, news etc.
The group is confidential, spam free and a great way of keeping in touch.
To join or find out more please email e-group@stjohnsbbh.org.uk
I am not an artist by any means, but I do find that God really speaks to me, sometimes for others, whilst I am painting or drawing. Prophetic art is painting through prayer, so that God can show His love and message for others through pictures. I find that the pictures mean different things to different people. I sometimes have a verse or word about the paintings, but generally, unless I am painting for a particular person, or purpose, the paintings are usually left unlabelled for each person to take their own message from God.
Hand painted Christmas Cards by Sarah
After the huge success of the prophetic art calendars I made last year, raising over £60 for the Condor Vision Trust, I have painted some Christmas cards and think God is asking me to put them 'out there'(!) for sale to raise money for others. Each card will be an original hand painted card to order, with prayer for the person receiving the card, of one of these designs.
The cards are square cream cards, just a bit smaller than a cd case, with matching envelope and blank inside for your own message. There will be small label on the back with my email address and a prophetic word and/or bible reference for the person the card was painted for.
100% of the money raised through church will go to the church charities. (Donations of 50p minimum each card). I currently have a limited amount of cards and will need to have all orders by 15th November so that I can paint the cards in time for Christmas!
Orders can be made by email sj.propheticart@yahoo.co.uk Thank you!
Description
1 One holly leaf and three berries with glitter (3 in 1)
2. Red bow with glitter gold heart centre (Gift of love)
3. Christmas tree with red berries and glitter (Evergreen, evermore)
4. Red heart with two green holly leaves and glitter (In love)
5. Three holly leaves and three red berries with glitter (Glory)
6. Two holly leaves and three berries with glitter (Peace)
7. Green present with red bow and glitter (His gift and His protection)

Pastoral Ministry
Most of the activities of the church come under pastoral care, especially those which build friendships and train and equip members of the congregation to support one another better.
These include:
Home groups
Tuesday @ Ten (T@T)
Women's Retreat
Men's Breakfasts and Outings
Men's Retreat
Prayer Net
Alpha Courses
Parenting Courses
Marriage Courses
Prayer Ministry
Tea and Fellowship
Space Project
Church Camp
Children's Groups
Meals on wheels and practical help
Freedom in Christ Course
Acorn Listening Training
Transport rota
The aim of the Pastoral Team is to encourage whole church ministry. We hope that most needs are met via one of these groups and activities. Many needs are met quietly by individuals behind the scenes.
The Pastoral Team aims to co-ordinate people who might slip through the net and respond to crisis situations - illness etc.
Pastoral Link Team members:
Michael and Mercedes Bell, Sarah Webster, Jane Busby, Hazel Lamb, Vivien Herbert, Liz New, Nick and Jackie Cole
Anyone with needs or who thinks someone might have a need, or feels they need reinforcement can contact a member of the PLT, who will co-ordinate help eg meals rota, help with transport, putting in touch with someone to talk and pray over problems.

Baptisms take place in our 10.30am service usually, but not always, on the first Sunday of the month when we have a family service. This service is shorter than our other services and since it is child-friendly, is more suitable for any children who may attend as your guests for the baptism.
If you would like to arrange a baptism, then the first step is to call this number 07890 300907. We will arrange for a member of St. John's to come and visit you in your home and bring information about the baptism service. Following this visit, a clergy member will arrange to meet you to talk about the baptism service and its implications. It is a good idea to come to a family service before your own child's baptism so you have an idea of what the service is like. This will be discussed when you meet.
People can be baptised at any age - adults included - so don't let age be a barrier.
If you would like to book the hall for an event you are planning, please download the relevant forms here:

Ayacucho translates as 'The Corner of Death' This field is the site of one of the major battles in the 1980's and 1990's armed conflict where thousands died. A monument has been erected in memory of those who died. This corner of death was renamed by the power of the spirit to 'The Corner of Life'.
Ayacucho was the site of the final uprising against the Spanish. The Battle of Ayacucho was a decisive military encounter during the Peruvian War of Independence, fought on December 9th, 1824 combined with the death toll in the 1980's and 1990's makes this area one of the bloodiest in the history of Peru.
Also the final uprising against the Spanish started here. The 'Prayer Warriors' were back in action later at the University that birthed the Shining Path, site of battles such as between the Wari and Inca tribes and strongholds, and the place the Inquisition was introduced to Peru.
The local government is now thinking of changing the name of the city from "Corner of the Dead" to "City of Peace" and to bury their 'identity' as terrorists, both reflecting what was proclaimed in the spirit.

Elsa's house collapsed, so she rebuilt from the wreckage. But you don't build on a river bed because when the rains come...
A very generous, fellow member of the congregation, has given her the money to rebuild.
It was rebuilt, on posts, for Christmas. What a Christmas present.
Elsa said "Thank you very much for the blessing and for somewhere we can sleep, Glory to God for your love for me".
Joseph is 7 years old and lives in a village called "Fure". On a normal day in his village, Joseph went to pick his donkey up. The donkey was scared by a noise and dragged him over the stones and rubble causing injuries to his head.

It was at this point I met him in Tapay village with his aunt. When she found out that Joseph didn't want to go with her to Lima, the capital of Peru, she asked me to take him back to "Fure", a walk that would take 7 hours. I took Joseph to a 'Posta Medica', which like a clinic for first-aid. After a little rest we started out on our long walk to "Fure".
When we were near Joseph's house, he was so happy that he was even making jokes. Finally we arrived and I gave him to his mother.
This last week I visited him and he's better now and I hope to see him again in the future.
I ask for prayers, for many of these cases that happen in villages no one knows, there are many people who live in faraway villages nearly inaccessible to us, we are not used to walking in those dangerous places.
Your help makes possible the travel, to walk in those places to serve our neighbour, in spite of the hard walk, but we do it for our love of our God and to give them comfort, specially to share the gospel that "CHRIST IS THE LORD" and he loves us a lot.
A big hug to all of you

Grimanesa and Miguel lived in Gilla, a village in the mountains of Colca Canyon. Grimanesa was pregnant and, when she was in her ninth month she walked for thee hours with her husband to the "posta sanitaria" which is like a little hospital where the doctor helped her and her baby was born. It was a lovely girl.
Grimanesa had problems, because the placents was left in the womb she started to bleed, so the doctor decided to take her to Cabanaconde. She had to walk from 4 to 5 hours to get the bus to get to that village but tragically she died during the journey.
I found Miguel in the little hospital in Cabanaconde, crying and desperate and not knowing what he should do. After all the formalities were completed the next day, Miguel and his family took Grimanesa's body back to their village. It was a dangerously long walk of 8 hours with no roads in those parts. Travelling is either on foot or by donkey and mule.
Miguel's daughter is called Milagros which means miracle. She now lives with her aunt Silvia, in Cabanaconde.
Silvia has two boys. She and her husband have always wanted to have a girl, and our Lord who brought Milagros to them, to take care of her created a problem for them as they don't have the resources to feed her properly

Sisters and brothers, thank you for your help to the work that our Lord has entrusted to me in these places. Without your help and prayers it wouldn't be possible to help our humble brothers that suffer so much.
With lots of love, your brothers and friends forever:

San Felipe Anglican Mission
Father Alejandro's vision for Anglican mission bases all over the Colca Canyon, which is the most important thing a people who have lost their identity need. They need to know who they are in Christ.
For repentance and reconciliation for the many battles, war and civil strife that have occurred in the past.
We pray that Fr Alejandro legs get strengthened so he can carry on walking along the canyon visiting his parishioners. Also pray for his wife Doris who has been very unwell over the past year.
Pray for Julio as he travels long distances to preach in prisons. He also travels into the Amazonian jungle to minister to the Bora Bora tribe as well as all those in need on his way to them.
Pray also for his family as his two daughters and his wife were diagnosed with tuberculosis. His wife was on the brink of death. Thank God the daughters are now recovered; his wife is recovering at a slower pace. They have also incurred heavy expenditure due to the medical tests and treatment they have undergone.

Ezekial 22:30
Nehemiah 1:4-11
Daniel 9: 4-19
Ephesians 2:13-17

The fantastic work Julio does used to be largely funded by family purse. However, the bulk of the expenses are now being funded by St John's, Broadbridge Heath, through the Condor Vision Trust.
Julio said that without St John's he would not have reached all the people he did in 2010.

Six years ago a 1,200 square meter plot of land was purchased to build the base for a mission. The land did not have any of the basic services: water, electricity, drains whatsoever.
Thanks to prayers and complete financial support, Fr Alejandro was able to complete the mission in 2009. This building stands as a testimony in Cabanaconde, because the construction is to glorify the Lord in the Colca Canyon area.
Fr Alejandro walks long distances to bear witness to the villages, walking through these marvellous mountains in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Fr Alejandro says " All the mission journeys are to help the villages and to proclaim the gospel. The paths are very dangerous, but there are children and brothers who are waiting for us.
We take some gifts for the children, clothes, bread and hot chocolate for Christmas. There are lots of people scattered around the canyon waiting for us in the mountains. They need the love of God!

Our mission is very clear: "Preach the gospel to every creature everywhere", helping them to become loyal disciples of Christ, teaching and sending them to their own mission field.

The compensation for being wrongfully imprisoned during the civil war was a little plot of wasteland without water, electricity or sanitation. It took until 2009 for the government to tell the people which plot of land was whose. We helped some of these people to purchase "better looking shacks".
We were apalled at the conditions Daniel (wrongly imprisoned for over 8 years), Maria and baby Gabriela (who became our Goddaughter) had to live in, if they left the shack the government could hand it over to someone else. We have helped Daniel and his wife Maria to get back on their feet. Daniel is now teaching in a theological college.
The Condor Vision Trust remains committed to support those who suffer in this manner.

The goal is to help establish a student movement committed to evangelism and discipleship in the student world, so that students reach students with the good news of Jesus. The desire to be involved in this work came out of their own student days, where they were members of UCCF Christian Unions www.uccf.org.uk in Birmingham and York, and then through six years spent working as volunteers and staff with UCCF. The aim is to help young Greek Christians to make the most of the opportunities for growth as believers and for reaching out to their fellow students at a significant time of life, so that they themselves will develop convictions for life, so that their fellow students will have an opportunity to respond to the gospel and so that the church will be built up.
Most of their time in Athens is spent in language study (Greek is a hard language to learn) and in training and supporting Greek students across the city and across the country, seeking to encourage them to be active in witness to their fellow students. They also look for opportunities to develop partnerships with churches in each university town so that the IFES ministry functions as the evangelistic arm of the church in the student world.
The Clarks are members of a Greek Evangelical Church in the city centre, and the three older children go to their local state primary school. They plan to stay in Greece until the work among students can be passed fully on to Greek staff workers, with the hope being that some of the students they are able to train and disciple during university years will commit part time or full time to seeing student mission flourish among all of Greece's universities and colleges.
Through this, not only will Greek young people be introduced to Jesus but also the church will be strengthened as trained and motivated graduates, devoted to Jesus play their part in the growth of the gospel in homes, neighbourhoods, offices, schools, families and so on.

This year's (2011) Christian Aid collection in Broadbridge heath raised £434.91 which will help to transform lives around the world. A huge thank you to the twelve or so people who made this possible.
We also collected three five cent coins, two buttons and a small magnet!
